BUG+EDU

As a very wise woman once said, ‘We believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them code away. Show them all the hacking they possess inside.’ Note: we might have some of the words a little wrong here.
Seriously, we think of the BUG as a platform that lets visionaries build things they want to build. We also happen to think that those visionaries might be children, adolescents, college students, post-docs, or just about anyone who spends a lot of time studying. Blaise Pascal invented an early calculator at age 19 (back in 1642!), Louis Braille’s work primarily occurred as a 15-year-old, and Philo Farnsworth first conceptualized electron beam scanners when he was 14 (read here for more great stories like these).
We are offering a variety of programs to get BUGs into the hands of the next generation of Edisons, Bells, and Westinghouses at a price point they can afford. In some cases that’s free, in others it’s a discount. If you have an idea that falls outside the scope of these programs please get in touch with us, our goal is to accommodate as many individuals as we can!
Students
Got classes? Got ID? Get a discount. All students enrolled in full-time educational programs are eligible for a 10% discount on all Bug Labs products, available once per year. It’s that simple. Send an email with the following details to students@buglabs.net to get your discount:
- Your full name
- Your school name
- A legible picture/scan of your student ID
K-12 Schools
For teachers or other educators at primary or secondary institutions we have two programs. The first is a general 25% discount on all purchases, available twice per year per institution, which you can obtain by sending an email with the following details to k12discount@buglabs.net:
- Your full name
- Your school/institution name and mailing address
- Your role
Additionally, we are going to have a monthly contest in which we give away three (3) BUGbundles to three different schools. Every calendar month, an individual, group, teacher, class, or other organization may enter, and multiple entries per school are acceptable. All you have to do is send an email with the following details to k12contest@buglabs.net:
- Your name (or the name of an individual representing a group)
- The name of the group (if applicable)
- The school/institution name and mailing address
- A 250-500 word entry describing how the individual/group will use the BUGbundle. There is no such thing as a “wrong” answer here! Each month we will select entries based on a combination of creativity and inspiration. Also, we will pay extra attention to schools located in higher “in-need” districts, though we will read each entry regardless of background.
Secondary Education Programs
For teachers or other educators at undergraduate or postgraduate institutions we have three programs. The first is a general 25% discount on all purchases, available twice per year per institution, which you can obtain by sending an email with the following details to collegediscount@buglabs.net:
- Your full name
- Your school/institution name and mailing address
- Your role
The second program involves classrooms in which coursework is designed around the BUG platform. If you are a professor interested in incorporating BUG into your teaching, please contact us at collegeclasses@buglabs.net, and we will work with you on an individualized basis to determine the best way to assist your efforts.
Thirdly, we are planning an ongoing series of campus tours, in which Bug Labs team members visit school campuses and have in-person events. These events can be customized to meet the need of a specific institution’s events, or can be as simple as “meet and greet (and hack and code and tweak and tinker)” activities. We’ll be creating a full calendar of events later in the year, so if you’d like to nominate your school, please email us at campustours@buglabs.net.
